Julien vice World champion

Publié le par Vincent Esnault

Julien Levrard captured the silver at the closing competition of the World Championships of Gijon, the marathon. On a quite plane circuit, with long straight lines, and some changing conditions (wet, dry...), the French team member managed to escape in the good break. He firstly was with two Argentine and two New-Zealander skaters, and soon with only one of them: Shane Dobbin and Sergio Ali.

Shane Dobbin finally captured the rainbow shirt after a powerful sprint in the last straight line. Julien was close behind, and he took the second place. It's a very good result for the French team, who had not won a medal on the distance since 2005 (Alexis Contin World Champion), but for Julien also! He just came to Gijon to compete one race, and he climbed on the podium! 100% good!

He's one of the four French skaters to come back Home with a medal (or some medals), with his club team mate Alexis Contin (one gold at the track elimination and one silver at the track 1000m). The two other medallists are Yann Guyader (World Champion of the track points/elimination, bronze at the road elimination) and Nicolas Pelloquin (silver at the track 500m).

The French team finished at the sixth rank of the nation's ranking, with a total amount of seven medals. Colombia is first with 33 medals, South Corea second with 20 medals, USA third with 19 medals. Then came Italy (23 medals) and Belgium (10 medals).
